Distance Education Student Setup
Below are instructions to be forwarded to new Distance Ed students for IT setups.
These steps are to be completed on the computer the student will be using for their learning.
Students need to install Microsoft Office 365, Microsoft Teams and TeamViewer.
Student username and password should be supplied by the Advisor.
Install Microsoft Office 365
Some windows machines come with Office 365 already installed, if they do you can skip this step. You can check by seeing if any Office application is installed such as Word.
For Mac machines, if you have previously installed Office you can skip this step, else you will have to install.
- Open an internet browser such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Safari and visit - https://go.silkwood.qld.edu.au/
- Click the Office 365 Button
- Login with student email and password.
- Click "Install Office" and click "Office 365 apps"
- Open the downloaded installer file (most likely in the Downloads folder) and step through the Office install process.
- Once installed, open an Office app like Word and sign in with student email and password. After you're signed into one app, it should be signed in to all.
- Open Outlook and it should add student's email account.
- Open OneDrive and step through the setup using student's email address.
Install Microsoft Teams
- Open an internet browser such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Safari and visit - https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoft-teams/download-app
- Click the Download for Desktop Button
- Open the downloaded installer file (most likely in the Downloads folder) and step through the Teams install process.
- Once installed, open Teams and sign in with student email and password.
Install Team Viewer
- Open an internet browser such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge or Safari and visit - https://www.teamviewer.com/en-us/
- Click the Download Button at the top of the screen.
- You should be redirected to the Windows or Mac download page. Click the Download TeamViewer button of the relevant operating system.
- Open the downloaded installer file (most likely in the Downloads folder) and step through the Team Viewer install process.
